Our award-winning Catch and Sea® food experience created by Wendy Gallagher, in collaboration with Boy Matthew Sea Fishing Trips & Warkes Deli, is something truly unique and offers you the chance to catch local fresh fish for your breakfast, straight from the Atlantic Ocean onto your plate!  Everything’s better when you have to work a little harder for it, right? And every meal is so much better when it’s as fresh as fresh can be!

This is one of the first unique experiences as part of Northern Ireland’s new tourism brand; ‘Embrace A Giant Spirit’… ‘giant experiences of culture, landscapes, our legends, our cities, our coast and our food’.

This unique breakfast fishing tour offers visitors a totally different perspective of our stunning coastline voted #1 region in 2018 by Lonely Planet & brings to life stories about our local landmarks, legends, wildlife, traditions, food heritage and people.

We will see first-hand the sea passage our very first settlers to the island of Ireland took nearly ten thousand years ago & learn about our unique food heritage from the River Bann.  The surrounding coastline which being the north Atlantic coast is every bit as dramatic as Game of Thrones would lead you to believe.

Seeing coastal features & sea life up close; watching the sunrise – resplendent over the Atlantic Ocean; a fishing rod in your hands – perhaps for the first time; catching that fish and learning how to fillet it; lifting lobster pots; feeding the friendly, hungry, seabirds with fishy leftovers; seeing the younger (and often older) fisherfolks whooping, with catches of one, two and even three fish at a time and taking pride in presenting your catch to the Chef makes for marvellous memories.

Your catch is cooked for breakfast by a local Chef and presented alongside a selection of award-winning local produce you may have never tasted, or been aware of, before. This breakfast experience illustrates the true meaning of ‘our place on a plate’.  In October 2016, Metro UK citied this experience; No. 1 of ’13 reasons every foodie should visit Northern Ireland’.

Guests say it’s hard to experience a more inspiring way to start their day, allowing them the remainder of the day to sample our other tourist attractions;  be it exploring our historic Castles, surfing Blue Flag beaches, Games of Thrones locations, visiting Northern Ireland’s only World Heritage Site, enjoying a dram in the world’s oldest, licensed, whiskey distillery, drinking locally brewed Lacada beers or even golfing on nearby, world famous, links courses at Portstewart, Castlerock or Royal Portrush.

Catch and Sea Portstewart Tour Customer Testimonial

An amazing fishing and eating experience with Causeway coast foodie tours!!

We have just had the best experience on the causeway coast ‘Catch and Sea’ tour. Wendy organised everything brilliantly and even put on an extra date to suit our holiday dates in Portstewart. We have never fished before but Peter the skipper made it really easy and we whiled away a couple of hours happily fishing in the calm seas in the bay. It was great to see the town of Portstewart and the length of the coast from a different angle and to hear about the history of the area as we fished. Both Peter and Wendy were really knowledgeable as well as patient and welcoming. After catching several fish and emptying a lobster pot we went back to Warkes deli where Jacqui and her team made us very welcome. We had a fantastic breakfast cooked for us from the fish we caught and there were warm homemade scones and jam on the table as we arrived. Wendy talked us through the provenance of all the food we were about to eat and there were opportunities to learn more about the local produce and the gastronomy of the region. It was money very well spent and most importantly we all came away feeling more connected to the country and its history and traditions. I can’t recommend this trip highly enough, do give it a go if you can.
